Certain ASTM specifications require a hex head that is larger than a standard finished hex head. These include A320, A193, and A307 Grade B. While A325 and A490 bolts also require a heavy hex head, it is important to refer specifically to structural bolt standards when reviewing their dimensional requirements, as these bolts are designed with shorter thread lengths compared to standard heavy hex bolts.
Applications
Heavy hex bolts are used across a wide range of applications, including fastening wood, steel, and various other construction materials. They are commonly employed in major projects such as bridges, buildings, docks, and highway structures. In some cases, hex bolts are manufactured with forged heads and are typically used as headed anchor bolts due to their strength and load-bearing capability.
Manufacturing
Baseline Bolts manufactures superior-quality heavy hex bolts in diameters ranging from 1/2″ to 2-1/2″, meeting most ASTM, SAE, and AASHTO specifications. We also offer custom manufacturing solutions, including special tooling to produce non-standard bolt heads and head dimensions with the client’s preferred logo and/or name for distinctive brand identification.
Stock
Baseline Bolt stocks A325Heavy Hex Structural Bolts.
Standard Thread Lengths
Bolt lengths ≤ 6″: Thread length = (2 X diameter) + 1/4″
Bolt lengths > 6″: Thread length = (2 X diameter) + 1/2″
